Contributors' Notes

Steven Dunn is the author of eleven collections of poems, including Different Hours (Norton), winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize.  His poems have been published in The Atlantic Monthly, The Nation, the New Republic, the New Yorker, and the American Poetry Review, among many others. "The Animals of America" first appeared in Witness.

Dan Gerber's work has been published in The New Yorker, The Nation, The Georgia Review, Tricycle and Poetry.  He was the recipient of the Michigan Author Award in 1992, had work selected for The Best American Poetry 1999, and received The Mark Twain Award for distinguished contributions to Midwestern Literature in 2001. His most recent collection of poems is Trying to Catch the Horses (Michigan State University Press, 1999). "The Bear on Main Street"  first appeared in Trying to Catch the Horses.

Ashley Capps received her M.A. in English from Ohio University in 2002 and is currently the Jay C. and Ruth Halls Poetry Fellow at the Wisconsin Writer's Institute. 

Carl Rakosi's The Collected Poems of Carl Rakosi was published in 1986 by the National Poetry Foundation.  His Poems 1923-1941 (Sun and Moon Press) won the PEN Center USA West award in 1996. "No One Talks About This" is taken from The Collected Poems of Carl Rakosi

J.P. Dancing Bear's poems have appeared in hundreds of magazines and journals including the Clackamas Literary Review, Borderlands: The Texas Poetry Review, The Mid-America Poetry Review, and The Midwest Poetry Review.  His chapbook, What Language, won the 2002 chapbook prize from Slipstream magazine and press.  He hosts a weekly poetry program on public radion 91.5 FM, KKUP, Cupertino, and is Editor-in-Chief of The DMQ Review.

Ellen Bass's new book is Mules of Love (BOA Editions, 2002). She is the author of four volumes of poetry.  Her work has appeared in  The Beloit Poetry Journal, DoubleTake, Field, and others.   "Bears in China" first appeared in The Spoon River Poetry Review.

C.J. Sage's peotry collection is Let's Not Sleep (Dream Horse Press, 2002).  Her poems have appeared in The Threepenny Review, Smartish Pace, The Spoon River Poetry Review, The Seattle Review, Light Quarterly and many other magazines.  Her awards include the Academy of American Poets Prize, several Phelans, and the Marjorie McLaughlin Folendorf Award for outstanding achievement in creative writing.  She is the editor of And We The Creatures.

Kenneth Pobo's book of poems, Introductions, will appear from Pearl's Book'Em Press in September. In 2002, Pudding House brought out his chapbook Kenneth Pobo's Greatest Hits, and in 2001 Higganum Hills Books published his book Ordering: A Season in My GardenHis work has appeared in Nimrod, Colorado Review, Mudfish, Blue Unicorn, Indiana Review, ForPoetry.com and numerous anthologies.   He collects garage/bubblegum/psychedelia records from the 1960s, gardens, and enjoys his two cats Preston and Margot.
